In two attacks, unidentified militants shot dead three policemen in Srinagar on Monday. In the first attack, unidentified gunmen shot dead two policemen, including an officer, at Zadibal in Srinagar. This is first such major strike in the city in nearly three years. In the second, that came just hours after, the suspected militants shot dead another policeman at Tengpora, Batamaloo. The official identified the cop as Mohammad Shafi Chatwal.

The injured cops were shifted to hospital where they were declared dead. The policemen have been identified as assistant sub inspector, Nazeer Ahmad and Constable Bashir Ahmad. Officials said that though both the cops were in uniform, they were not carrying their weapons. So far no militant outfit has carried responsibility for the attack. At Tengpora Batamaloo, officials said that suspected militants also snatched service rifle of the slain policeman. Sources said that the policeman was on duty as Special Police Officer of a political leader. Police and other security forces have been put on an alert to look out for the assailants, who managed to flee the spot. The last such attack took place on June 22, 2013 when two policemen were shot dead at Hari Singh High Street.
